Message from the Artists of Ukraine to the Artists in the World

"If my land freezes, I will warm it" -- these lines were written in the 1970s by a young Ukrainian poet.

And in these days, in these hours, hundreds of thousands of youth, and men and women with their souls and bodies are warming the Ukrainian land: on the Maidan Nezalezhnosti, in the heart of our country, and on the squares of dozens of other Ukrainian cities.

Today our homeland needs warmth, warmth that will bring solidarity and support of people from around the world.

This warmth is essential for our brothers and sisters, who are lying down in front of car and truck wheels, and who are ready to lie down in front of tanks and armoured vehicles, so that fear and lies do not reign in our country. We, the artists of Ukraine, turn with a request to the diplomatic corps in Ukraine to send our message to artists in other countries to come out with "orange actions" and support the right of the Ukrainian people to a free choice of their future.

Today the symbol of freedom and justice in Ukraine is the colour orange.

In a sign of solidarity, we call upon artists all over the world to use orange in their exhibits, in galleries, museums, and in the streets!

The orange symbol will become one of the bonfires which will bring the warmth of support and will help us defend our right to democracy, freedom, and human dignity.
