The Socialist Party faction of the Ukrainian parliament will support Yulia Tymoshenko for prime minister if her candidacy is proposed by Viktor Yushchenko. This was announced to the press today by Socialist Party leader Oleksandr Moroz.

“We have nothing against Tymoshenko,” Moroz said. Furthermore, according to him, the SPU does not see the possibility of opposition.

Moroz said that he himself does not feel “offended,” as he is leader of the SPU faction in Verkhovna Rada and does not seek any other position.

Moroz also said that he intends to meet with Yushchenko regarding staff appointments. According to the SPU leader, his party includes many professionals who could form a future government. For example, Moroz believes that there is no better candidate for minister of science and education than SPU Parliament Deputy Stanislav Nikolayenko.

Acting minister of science and education, Vasyl Kremin, was present at the founding meeting of the Organization of Educational Collaborators, also attended by Moroz and Nikolayenko. Kremin left the Social Democratic Party (united) on January 26 in disagreement with his party's policy to form an opposition to Yushchenko.

As was reported earlier, the leader of Verkhovna Rada’s committee on freedom of speech, Mykola Tomenko, predicts that the parliament will support the Tymoshenko candidacy for the prime minister post.

The Communist Party fraction in parliament does not exclude the possibility of supporting Tymoshenko's parliamentary approval of her candidacy for prime minister.
