Public indignation, open letters and general non-acceptance of the “second official language” initiative has affected O. Moroz. He ordered his team to reconsider the bill regarding languages.

For example, earlier the following statements had been made: “The official languages on the territory of Ukraine are the Ukrainian and Russian languages,” and “those languages which are considered to be working languages of the government and local self-government bodies, as well as the languages used in official communication, education and culture, bookkeeping, in official meetings, in the information space and in public relations, should be recognized as official languages.”

Now, according to the new bill, Ukrainian language is not only the state language, but also the official language.
“Along with the Ukrainian language, in administrative territories where other national languages are commonly used, such languages are also officially used,” the new bill states.

In fact, this will make the norm, with the introduction of a new concept of "official language," legally binding, which in practice will obviously apply only to Russian.
