The session of the political council of the Socialist Party of Ukraine is over. The socialists have named their conditions of Yulia Tymoshenko’s support.
The first concerns adhering to the agreement signed by Viktor Yushchenko and Oleksandr Moroz on November 6. The majority of the demands that could be accomplished by quick decisions are already practically fulfilled.
The second is the quota of one sixth of all positions in the executive branch, which Moroz estimates to be 4,000 positions.
According to Moroz, it is also necessary to sign an agreement with Viktor Yushchenko about the modes of formation of executive branch structures, “because already you can now see next to Viktor Yushchenko certain people who had nothing to do with his success”. O.Moroz emphasized that if government policy contradicts the agreement of November 6,the decision to secede from all governmental structures, will be made.
Moroz also said that Monday evening he would have a meeting with Yulia Tymoshenko. “With Yushchenko, we'll meet the day after tomorrow,” said Moroz in view of Viktor Yushchenko’s mother's death.
During the meeting with Viktor Yushchenko, Moroz will also speak about government vacancies available for socialists.
“We insist on four positions, but three of them should be those I have already mentioned before”, was Moroz’s answer to the question about the possible agreement on other positions in the government. As reported earlier, the socialists want to be placed in charge of the Ministry of Finances, the Ministry of Fuel and Energy and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Further, the SPU could lay claim to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industrial Policy.
Moroz informed that the SPU is planning to adopt the strategy of its election campaign in March 2005.
He also informed that the SPU will most likely participate independently in the 2006 parliamentary elections. “Concerning the central-left wing of the political spectrum, we are not going to give it up to anyone else. And let nobody try to mingle here”.
At the same time, answering the question about the joined block with “Nasha Ukraina” (Our Ukraine) and BUT (The Block of Yulia Tymoshenko), he did not exclude such a possibility. “Such a variant could be regarded under certain circumstances. We shall talk about such circumstances with Viktor Yushchenko,” he said.
Besides that, the “united family” of socialists is planning to increase its ranks. O. Moroz informed that he has already held talks with 15 MPs who wish to join the SPU faction. In fact, a couple of days ago one influential representative of the SPU hinted that the doors into their party are open to part of the SDPU(o) faction, the latter being ideologically close to the SPU.
