MPs Demand Kuchma's Arrest

MP Hryhoriy Omelchenko has requested that the prosecutor general arrest Leonid Kuchma for his involvement in the murder of Georhiy Gongadze, the beating of Oleksander Eliashkevych, as well as for accepting bribes, wasting state funds, and for the misuse of his official position.

The inquiry was read out on Wednesday by Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn.

At the same time, MP Yuriy Artemenko asked acting Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to annul the government's decision to grant a life-long government pension to former president Kuchma.

As was reported, the Cabinet of Ministers, headed by Azarov, gave Kuchma life-long use of a dacha, security, free travel, vacations, and staff.

Omelchenko also asked the prosecutor general to arrest the director of state enterprise "Ukspetseksport," Shmarov, for illegal sale of weapons, which had resulted in the government being fined.

Liliya Hryhorovych asked the head of the Ukrainian Border Service to cancel a 900-day restriction on entry into Ukraine for Milesh Milenkovych, leader of a youth organization (Poyasnyty Zvidky).

Likewise, members of parliament had a number of questions regarding illegal distribution of real estate in Kozyna.
