"Ukrainian elections: second round -- helping bring voters from Ohio & Baltimore to cast their vote in Washington DC
Dear friends,
As you may know, out of 2,271 persons registered to vote in DC for the first round of the presidential election only 507 persons actually cast their vote. Out of 800 registered from Ohio less than 100 came to vote. The similar situation is with North Carolina and the city of Baltimore. This mainly because it is far and quite expensive for most of the voters to come to DC, especially twice – for the registration and voting.
Since it is extremely important to ensure that as many Ukrainians cast their vote in the second round of elections as possible, a small group of Ukrainians living in DC area decided to help bring the registered voters from these states to DC polling station on November 21. Ukrainians in Ohio, North Carolina and the city of Baltimore are working hard on raising money for transportation. They have already received help from local credit unions and churches but they still lack funds to make the cost affordable for most voters.
So far help is needed to fund two buses coming from Cleveland, Ohio and Baltimore, Maryland.
Please join us and help the registered voters come and cast their vote. Even a small contribution makes a difference.
Please make your donation to Ukraina Citizens International Association (UCIA) that will make a direct payment to bus companies to cover part of the transportation cost. Since UCIA is a not for profit organization, your donation will be tax deductible.
As it is little time left, it would be helpful if you could pass your check to UCIA President, rather than sending it by mail. He lives in Adams Morgan, about 2 blocks from Columbia Rd and 18th St. You can easily reach him to arrange a meeting on your way to/from work.
