День пам’яті Георгія Гонгадзе

16 вересня – день зникнення Георгія Гонгадзе. Для багатьох з нас це відправний пункт боротьби, точка зламу бачення ситуації у країні. Мабуть, саме тоді і почались доволі сильні спроби боротьби проти режиму. Когось саджали, когось били, хтось зникав...
У більшості люди, що брали участь в УБК, не полишали боротьби протягом останніх 5 років. Апогеєм був жовтень-листопад 2004. Але чомусь більшість з нас і надалі продовжує громадську діяльність. Що ж змінилось? На жаль, мало що. Знов на акціях міліціонерів більше, ніж учасників; знов оперативні зйомки - можливо, невдовзі на акціях знов доведеться ховати обличчя; знов прослуховування офісів громадських організацій; вулиця Банкова і досі так називається, незважаючі на клятвенні обіцянки Ющенка і Луценка переіменувати її на честь Георгія Гонгадзе; владні мужі і надалі роблять вигляд, що Кучма має право знаходитись на волі.
Прогрес у розслідуванні справи Гонгадзе просто „колосальний”: Кравченко „самозастрелився”; Пукач поза Україною; Мельниченко не ризикує приїхати в країну; незважаючи на його записи, Кучма досі не за гратами.
З огляду на ситуацію низка громадських організацій 16 вересня буде проводити акцію „День пам*яті Георгія Гонгадзе”. Один з головних аспектів акції – недопущення присвоєння її якоюсь партією, НУО чи будь-якими іншими об’єднаннями. Позаяк це не акція в актив якоїсь структури, а день скорботи українців за загиблим від рук режиму журналістом. Немає значення, що ми належимо до різних організацій, але акцію будемо робити усі разом і не задля чийогось піару. Тому інша символіка, крім траурних стрічок і національного прапору буде щонайменш недоречною і просто неетичною.
Акцію плануємо стилізувати під УБК. Символіка тих часів (з силуетами Георгія) вітається. Під час всієї акції люди триматимуть у руках запалені свічки і портрети Гонгадзе. Траурні стрічки на рукавах і прапорах обов*язкові.
Акція планується проводитись наступним чином:
- о 19:00 – збір на Майдані під стелою;
- о 19:15 – побудова символічного ланцюга з людей від меморіальної дошки Гонгадзе (на будинку спілки журналістів, Хрещатик) до Банкової;
- о 19:30 – хвилина мовчання;
- після хвилини мовчання – побудова колони для траурної ходи. Спочатку йдемо до АП, вулицею Банковою (яка мала б носити ім’я Георгія...). Під час ходи цією вулицею демонстрантами будуть прилаштовані таблички „вул. Г. Гонгадзе”. Біля АП залишаємо Ющенку для нагадування свічки та плакати і рушаємо до Генпрокуратури. Там також залишаємо те саме для споглядання Піскуну.
Ще один момент акції – на власний розсуд кожного з учасників. Дедалі частіше на акціях ми спостерігаємо оперативні зйомки, після яких у активістів трапляються неприємні розмови у своїх ВУЗах. Були навіть випадки погроз вбивством. Тому, можливо, нам знову скоро доведеться ховати на акціях обличчя, як це було за часів режиму Кучми. У символ цього бажаючі можуть одягнути на акцію чорні (або жовто-блакитні) бандани чи хустини, що закривають обличчя.

Georgij Gongadze Memory Day

September 16 is the day when Georgij Gongadze [journalist who criticized Kuchma and his regime] disappeared. For many of us it was the starting point of struggle, the breaking point of our view on the situation in the country. Perhaps it was then when the relatively strong attempts to fight the regime started. Some were jailed, some were beaten, others disappeared...
The majority of people who participated in UBK [Ukraїna bez Kuchmy, Ukraїna without Kuchma initiative] haven't left the fight during the last 5 years. October-November 2004 were the apogee. But for some reason the majority of us are still continuing civic activities. What has changed? Unfortunately, not much. Again, there are more police than participants in [protest] events; again there are agents filming - maybe soon we'll have to again hide faces during [protest] actions; again the offices of civic organizations are being "bugged" [wire-tapped]; Bankova Street still bears its name despite solemn promises by [President] Jushchenko and [Minister of the Interior] Lutsenko to rename it in honor of Georgij Gongadze; the people in power continue to pretend that Kuchma has the right to not be in jail..
The progress in the Gongadze case investigation is simply "colossal":
Kravchenko "shot himself"; Pukach is not in Ukraїna; Mel'nychenko is not risking to come to the country; despite his [Mel'nychenko's] tapes Kuchma is still not behind bars.
In light of this situation on September 16 several civic organizations will conduct a "Georgij Gongadze Memory Day" action. One of the main aspects of the action is to prevent any [political] party, non-government organization or any other association from claiming the action as its own. This is not an action for the coffers of some structure, but a day when Ukrainians mourn a journalist who fell by the hands of the regime. It doesn't matter that we belong to different organizations, - we will do this event together and not for somebody's PR. Therefore any symbols other than mourning ribbons and the national flag are at least inappropriate and simply unethical.
We plan to style the action after UBK. Symbols from those times (with Georgij's silhouette) are welcome. During the entire action the people will hold lit candles and Gongadze's portraits in their hands. Mourning ribbons on sleeves and flags are a must.

The action will be held as follows:
- at 19:00 [7:oo pm] – gather on Majdan [Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv] under the stella;
- at 19:15 – build a symbolic chain of people from Gongadze memorial plaque (on the the Journalists House on Khreshchatyk Street) to Bankova Street;
- at 19:30 – a minute of silence;
- after the minute of silence – make a column for mourning procession. At first we'll walk to the Presidential Administration along Bankova Street (which should bear the name of Georgij...). During the procession the demonstrators will affix "G. Gongadze Street" signs. At the Presidential Administration we will leave for [President] Jushchenko our candles and placards as a reminder and then head to the Prosecutor General office. There we will leave the same for Piskun to look upon.
One more issue – at each participant's own discretion. We see more and more filming by agents at actions after which activists have unpleasant conversations at their [higher education establishments]. There were even murder threats. Thus, perhaps, we will have to again hide our faces at protest actions, as it was under the Kuchma regime. To symbolize this, those who want may wear black (or blue-&-yellow) bandannas or cloths to cover faces.

P.S. I presume everyone in diaspora understands that this means no orange items because they were part of Jushchenko's presidential campaign. Those in NYC who are either attending the banquet (where Jushchenko will be) or will help organize this may want to alert the media about this.
