Introduction:
On February 2nd 2007 Aragon I+D launched its second call for proposals addressed to the
Research Centres and Organizations in Aragon (Spain).
The Research Centres were invited to submit specific proposals for the recruitment of
researchers within their specific fields of activity. In these proposals the scientific profiles were
defined, with specific requirements regarding the experience and background of the researchers
to be recruited. The proposals also described the main challenges in each field, the expected
impact of the recruitment and the research resources available in each Centre.
As a result of this first call, 2 proposals were approved for Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón.
These proposals were subjected to a process of evaluation by the Board of Trustees, as
positions to be funded by Aragon I+D. Consolidation of each of these positions will depend on
the successful outcome of the recruitment procedure. If suitable candidates are not found for a
given position, the resultant funds will be used in the following call for proposals.
Call for applications: 20 positions funded by Aragon I+D are now open at different
research centres of Aragon
Aragon I+D has launched a call for applications to fill the positions selected by the Board. The
corresponding scientific profiles were advertised in suitable specialised forums, as well as in the
Journal Nature (April 26th). The call for applications is open to any candidate that fills the
requirements of academic background and research experience, irrespective of nationality. The
Application form can be downloaded from:

and must be submitted by email to araid@araid.es before 14.00 h (GMT) of June 15th 2007.
Applications for ITA positions can also be sent to lgracia@ita.es
Characteristics of the positions
20 full-time positions will be offered, and it is generally expected that the successful candidates
will become permanent staff of Aragon I+D, while carrying out their activity in the research
centre to which their position has been allocated. The performance of the researchers will be
periodically subjected to external evaluation.
Salaries will be commensurate with the experience and potential of the candidates and will
therefore be negotiated individually. Start-up research packages may also be arranged in
certain cases.
For foreign nationals, Aragon I+D will assist with visa and work permits procedures. The
contract will be effective only when the selected candidates are able to work legally in Spain.
Requisites for the candidates
The candidates are expected to have a minimum of 6 years of postdoctoral experience, with at
least two years spent in a centre different from that where the position is advertised.
The candidates must fulfil the academic background and research experience requisites
specified in the corresponding scientific profile. This will be assessed by an independent
evaluation commission, whose responsibility will be to rank the different candidates for a given
position according to their merits and potential. Based on this assessment, and on interviews
conducted with the best candidates, Aragon I+D will make the corresponding offers, after
approval of the Board of Trustees.
Scientific profile:
20. Application of polymer-matrix nanocomposites as multifunctional materials for
mechanical systems
The required profile corresponds to an expert in the field of applied science of nanostructured
polymer-matrix composites to be used as multifunctional materials in mechanical systems and
machinery.
The candidate must hold a PhD degree in physics, engineering, chemistry or materials science
with a strong background in soft condensed matter science especially in polymer physics or
rheology as well as post-doctoral and industrial R+D projects experience in the field.
The candidate shall posses a mixed scientific-technological profile, with abilities for both,
cooperating in research collaborative projects including some activities close to basic applied
research, and, very important, participating actively in applied research and development
projects and technology transfer activities to industry.
Research experience and achievements in any of the following topics are highly valuable for the
offered position.
Theory of the rheology and viscoelasticity of complex fluids and/or reinforcement of
polymer-composites at nano level.
Using of advanced techniques for multiscale simulation in order to analyse
relationships between nanostructure and macroscopic behaviour, developing
integral modelling approaches that in the mid term lead to design tools for the
conceptual generation of new materials under given functional specifications.
Modelling of polymer physics and composite reinforcement at nano level.
Characterisation of the nano and microstructure of nanocomposites: analysis of the
parameters that characterize nanoparticles dispersion, particles interaction,
interphase phenomena, structural characterisation as input for multiscale material
modelling, etc.
Mixing and compounding methods for adding nanoparticles to conventional
polymers, looking for ensuring adequate dispersions and moulding possibilities in
the final material through forming methods as conventional as possible.
Design and development of experimental methods for evaluating material
multifunctional behaviour (how mechanical, thermal, electrical or other properties
are combined) from material samples being developed at lab scale.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the preparation and execution of
collaborative applied research projects focussing on the development of polymer
nanocomposite materials with significant industrial participation, and which are therefore more
suitable for industrial application.
