Hello members.

There is some interest and potential support for the
creation of a teaching museum here in Lviv, and I'd
like to ask for your help in generating ideas for its
formation.
This museum (should it be built) would be connected
with the UGCC.
I must submit a brief proposal for this museum very
soon, but there are more than a number of very good
ideas around upon which the museum could be based, and
I'd like to see if your assistance might help me
decide upon the focus.

Broadly speaking, this is to be a museum of the
history of the UGCC.

Personally, I'd like to focus just upon the recent
Soviet period, although I don't want this to be simply
a historical museum/dusty-archive (which was so often
the case with Soviet style museums). Although history
is central, I'd really like this to be an exhibition
that people can relate to, and which will ideally
cause people to examine their own lives.

I feel the best idea thus far is to examine the period
of Soviet repression (attempted extermination) of the
UGCC, and the response of many people (the underground
church)as relates to human failings, weaknesses, and
fears. The reason for this focus is that many of the
same ideas and elements that allowed the Soviet
tragedy to occur are still alive and healthy today
here in Ukraine. For example, a lack of respect for
human life and dignity, belief in central planning,
and a willingness to submit to other's control and
dictatorship.

It's too easy to just keep pointing fingers at those
Moskali and Komunjaky as the guilty ones, when so many
people participated, even in small ways.

What I would like from some of you historians and
those involved in religious studies/life is:

a) If we follow this basic idea of exploring the
Church's history through the human experience, how do
you envision the structure of this museum.

b) What might you be able to suggest for resources.
ie. KGB documents, publications, individuals, etc.

Thank you all for any ideas that you might be able to
provide.

Sincerely
Rob Kalinovich
