Kharkiv’s transport system also suffered during the full-scale invasion. In particular, the Russians repeatedly shelled the Saltivka tram depot. In March 2022, the occupiers were actively destroying the city. Then the depot suffered significant damage. More than half of the tram fleet was destroyed – all due to numerous hits from Russian ammunition. Other premises of the depot, including the administrative building, were also heavily damaged.
In March 2022, shelling was particularly active. The depot was fired upon from Grady salvo fire system, mortars, and bombed by aerial bombs. At that time, 60 trams were completely destroyed, another 50 were damaged. In particular, the Russians destroyed a retro tram. In the evening of June 17, the Russians again fired a rocket at the depot, causing additional damage to it. In addition, a nearby high-rise building was damaged. On August 16, around five o’clock in the evening, the occupiers again shelled Saltivskiy district. The shelling was carried out from the “Tornado” salvo fire system from the direction of Liptsi village. After the shelling, a fire broke out in the garage cooperative, and the depot itself was destroyed.
