On March 2, 2022, the Russians launched a missile attack on the center of Kharkiv. On that day, the the Faculty of Economics building of the Karazin University on Myronosytska Street was destroyed.
The rocket attack had catastrophic consequences for the house. The interior decoration of the building, equipment and teaching materials were destroyed, internal brick walls were damaged and almost all the doors were broken. As a result of the attack, a fire started. Also, not a single whole window was preserved in the building. Due to the destruction, the building of the Faculty of Economics became unsuitable for teaching. At the same time, the city authorities promise to carry out reconstruction there.
Before the full-scale invasion, more than 1,700 students studied there. The Karazin School of Business was also located in the building. The house itself was also remarkable. It had received a protective status of the urban planning and architecture monument of local importance. The building was constructed in the 1920s according to the project of Ukrainian architect and public political figure Serhiy Tymoshenko. During the Soviet regime, his name was erased from the history of architecture. The reason lies in the architect’s past: Tymoshenko was a provincial commissar of the Kharkiv region and a member of the Ukrainian independent government Central Rada.
