On March 1, 2022, during the battle for Kharkiv, the Russians directed two rockets at the building of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration. The interval between the shelling was 5-7 minutes.
29 people died as a result of the shelling. The building of the Kharkiv Oblast State Administration was severely damaged, its right wing was damaged especially badly – from the roof to the basement. The rockets also destroyed the ceiling and damaged the roof. A fire broke out on the spot, which was later contained. Other houses in the area of Svoboda Maidan were also damaged by the blast wave. In June, the Oblast Administration building was recognized unsuitable for restoration.
On August 28 of the same year, the Russians again shelled the building of the Kharkiv Oblast State Administration. According to preliminary data, these were S-300 missiles launched from the Belgorod region of Russian Federation. One rocket hit the square near the Oblast State Administration, leaving behind a crater, the other destroyed a three-story building in the neighborhood. This time there were no human victims.
