The Russians destroyed a school In Izyum, built in the 19th century

In March 2022, Russian troops destroyed Izyum Secondary School No. 4. The consequences of the attack were simply catastrophic – after several airstrikes, only ruins remained of the school. Then there were fierce battles for Izyum. The occupiers relentlessly destroyed the city, and on April 2 they managed to completely occupy it. As a result of enemy attacks, the city was left without electricity, water and gas. During the occupation, the Russians also committed numerous crimes against the civilian population. But on September 10, Ukrainian troops liberated Izyum.

The destroyed school was one of the oldest ones in the Kharkiv region. It was opened on August 15, 1882 – at that time it was a professionally oriented school with one hundred children studied. In particular, it could boast as many as two libraries – a fundamental science library and a student library. In the 20th century, the building repeatedly changed its functions. In 1918, the Bolsheviks settled there, in 1920 a technical school and a workers school operated in a building, and in 1934 a Russian school was organized on the first floor. During the Second World War, a hospital operated on the basis of the school.
