The historical and archaeological reserve “Verkhniy Saltiv” is one of dozens of Ukrainian museums that suffered during a full-scale invasion. Located in the village of the same name in the Vovchansk district, it attracted fans of antiquity. At the beginning of the 20th century, archaeologists found the remains of the Saltiv-Mayak culture near Verkhniy Saltiv. The first exhibits were the artifacts found during the catacomb excavations. Also, the museum was notable for the fact that local residents participated in its creation.
The shelling of Verkhniy Saltiv began from the first days of the full-scale invasion. Museum employees managed to hide only part of the collection. Later, Verkhniy Saltiv got into Russian occupation, and the museum premises were mined by Russian military. During the hostilities, the building was partially destroyed, and some of the exhibits were destroyed. Due to significant damage to the walls, there was a threat of the roof falling. After the release, museum employees were able to return to Verkhniy Saltiv. They saved the remains of the collection.
