The Barabashov Market was the largest industrial goods market in Ukraine, occupying an area of more than 75 hectares. It was also considered the largest market in Eastern Europe. But everything changed after the full-scale invasion. So, on March 17, 2022, during the fighting for Kharkiv, the Russians shelled the market with the Grad salvo fire system. The fire broke out in different places. When the rescuers prepared the fire, the occupiers struck again. One firefighter died and his colleague was injured. The fire covered almost the entire market and spread to nearby private houses.
On March 25, Barabashovo was shelled again. A fire broke out, as a result of which a large part of the market was destroyed. Despite the destruction of hundreds of shops, some entrepreneurs returned to work in late April. Unfortunately, this was not the last shelling. On the morning of July 21, the Russians hit the market again. Two people died, another 21 people were injured. Four of them were taken to the doctor in serious condition. Shells hit near a public transport stop, causing several cars to burn.
