Cossacks - free men
The name entered the English language via French Cosaque. It is originally a Turkic word, qazaq, which means "adventurer" or "free man".[2][3][4] Cossacks (Qazaqlar) were also border keepers in the Khanate of Kazan.

Cossack Look up Cossack at Dictionary.com1598, from Rus. kozak, from Turk. quzzak "adventurer, guerilla, nomad," from qaz "to wander." The same Turkic root is the source of the people-name Kazakh and the nation of Kazakhstan.
